With legalization of recreational use upon us, patients will be tempted to experiment with cannabis products such CBD on their own to treat true medical conditions such as chronic pain or anxiety. However, if patients are using a product for a medical issue, be it cannabis, food, supplements or medications, that this should be done under the guidance of appropriate health care providers. We are all aware of the potential for hazardous consequences of self‐experimentation. Clarity is a specialized medical clinic whose main goal is to provide patient focused access to medical cannabis using a multidisciplinary team of specially‐trained GPs, specialists physicians, nurses, and cannabis coaches all working together to provide a comprehensive view of the patient’s cannabis care. Our vision is to advance the recognition of cannabis as a medicine by gathering data and studying the short‐ and long‐term benefits, whilst monitoring for potential side effects. Some of the topics that are particularly interesting to us are the safety and efficacy of cannabis in patients with significant comorbidities like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic liver disease, cancers, chronic kidney disease and others. Another is product selection and dosing. When should we use CBD dominant vs balanced 1:1 THC:CBD hybrids vs THC dominant products and can we suggest accurate dosing parameters based on the medical condition being treated? We are also passionate about the possibility of cannabis replacing some of our patients’ current prescription medications. All this needs data beyond anecdotes or expert opinion, which is what we have currently. Whether we agree with it or not, the truth is, patients will be using these products with or without the oversight of health care professionals and we could miss the opportunity to learn and be involved in our patients’ pursuit of well‐being. Initially, Clarity will provide our services through telemedicine, with their primary physician’s support, until we are able to recruit and train physicians within the community. We look forward to providing a valuable service to our community and patients in our offering of non‐judgemental access to CBD/medical cannabis and furthering our understanding of the risks and benefits.
